Russia fails to anticipate demand for Ukrainian language classes in schools on Russian-occupied territories

Pravda Ukraine

Schools in the Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine have been temporarily allowed to hold Ukrainian language classes if parents submit a special request. Though the authorities are putting pressure on parents [to not submit such requests], the Kremlin has failed to anticipate the number of requests that had been submitted to date.

Details: Russia has printed its own version of Ukrainian language textbooks, which discuss “brotherly nations” and justify the Russian occupation of Ukraine, but has failed to print sufficient copies to meet the demand for the classes.

The number of copies that have been shipped to the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine is significantly smaller than the number of children who want to learn Ukrainian.

Russian occupation administrations have ordered school principals to convince parents to tell their children to abandon their desire to learn Ukrainian.
