Russia increases pressure on Velyka Novosilka in Donetsk Oblast, UK intelligence says

UK Defence Intelligence has analysed the advance of Russian forces in Donetsk Oblast, particularly the pressure on the settlement of Velyka Novosilka.

Details: UK intelligence noted that Russian troops are increasing pressure on Velyka Novosilka in the central part of Donetsk Oblast.
The update stated that Russian forces had moved north to capture the villages of Neskuchne and Vremivka in January 2025.
UK intelligence noted that Velyka Novosilka has remained on the front line since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Russia’s efforts to seize the settlement in the summer of 2022 were unsuccessful and Ukraine managed to push Russian forces southward in 2023.
Russia advanced in the area after capturing other towns in the east, particularly Vuhledar in October 2024 and Kurakhove in early January 2025.
