Details: It is noted that the Russians “bought” this harvest from local farmers at low prices for further export to Russia and later to African countries.

A similar scheme has been operating in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine since the beginning of Russian aggression. The occupation authorities force local farmers to sell their crops to certain companies at fixed prices, effectively depriving them of a choice.

The report emphasises that the export of the Ukrainian harvest is not only an economic crime against Ukraine but also part of a broader strategy to undermine the economic stability of the region.

Russia is using Ukrainian resources to strengthen its position in the international arena. Such actions must be condemned by the international community, and the perpetrators must be brought to justice, the NRC stressed.

Background: The price on sunflower oil in the ports of Odesa increased by about US$40 per tonne over the week compared to last week’s prices.
