Pravda Ukraine

Source: Radio Liberty’s project Skhemy (Schemes)

Details: Planet Labs satellite images from 14 August, which are available to Skhemy, show that Ukrainian drones hit the northwestern part of the airfield, destroying several hangars.

Aviation expert Anatolii Khrapchynskyi said that a technical and operational unit that repairs and maintains aircraft is located there.

Borisoglebsk airfield is used by the Russian Air Force. In particular, Su-25, Su-30, Su-34 and Su-35 aircraft are based there.

Background:

  • On the night of 13-14 August 2024, long-range drones from the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) and defence forces, including the Air Force, Special Operations Forces, the Unmanned Systems Forces of Ukraine, Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU), and other branches – carried out the largest attack on Russian military airfields since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
  • Explosions rang out at Voronezh, Kursk, Savasleyka and Borisoglebsk airfields.
  • UP sources confirmed that this was a deliberately planned operation to prevent the Russians from using these airfields that host the jets capable of launching Kh-101 missiles at the front line and Ukrainian cities alike.
  • Russian war correspondents on social media reported that the strike was effective because Russian air defence could not protect these facilities.
