Satellite shows another sunken ship in Feodosiia – photo

A satellite image shows that in addition to the Novocherkassk, another ship partially sank as a result of the strike on the port of Feodosiia in occupied Crimea.

Details: According to the outlet, in addition to the Novocherkassk landing ship, the image shows that another vessel partially sank due to the strike. This ship is marked with a yellow rectangle in the photo.

An image dated 24 December has been used for comparison.

Update: Radio Svoboda has established that the other ship partially sunk in the Ukrainian strike on Feodosiia was an old UTS-150 training ship, which has been seen in photographs from the port at the site since at least 2007.

Background: 

  • Russia’s Ministry of Defence has confirmed that the Ukrainian Armed Forces hit the large landing ship Novocherkassk in occupied Feodosiia, Crimea, with missiles fired from a Su-24 frontline bomber jet on the night of 25-26 December.
  • Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk, Commander of the Air Force, confirmed that Ukrainian defenders had targeted the Novocherkassk in occupied Feodosiia
  • The Novocherkassk, a large landing ship from Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, was destroyed by cruise missiles from tactical aircraft belonging to Ukraine’s Air Force.
  • The Russian Defence Ministry reported that the Novocherkassk had been damaged “while repelling an attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine using air-to-surface missiles”.
  • Russia’s Defence Ministry has claimed that “two Ukrainian Su-24s that were launching missiles were destroyed by air defence during anti-aircraft combat”. Ukraine’s Air Force has refuted this claim.
