Details: Mützenich said that Defence Minister Boris Pistorius had announced on Thursday large-scale arms supplies to Ukraine which had been planned in the previous budget.

“To commit additional budget funds through parliament shortly before the Bundestag elections and thus present the future government with a fait accompli is not in order for our democracy and can hardly be justified from a legal and political point of view,” he said.

German newspaper Spiegel noted that German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Defence Minister Boris Pistorius have proposed allocating an additional €3 billion to agree on providing Ukraine with the most needed weapons before the 23 February snap elections.

Pistorius and Baerbock said this would be an important signal to Ukraine that German aid would not be reduced.
