Mike Johnson, Republican Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, has stated that the bill for supplementary funding for Ukraine will be considered as soon as the federal government’s financing issues are resolved.

Details: Johnson stated that the House of Representatives is looking into all available options for supplementary national security funding and will return to the issue “as soon as the government receives funding.”

Earlier, at a briefing on 29 February, the speaker predicted that the House would most likely not consider Ukrainian assistance this week, instead focusing on border security and avoiding a shutdown.

“If we are to fix the world, we must first fix America. That means two things: border security and funding for our government. So this week, we’re working really hard to do both of those things,” Johnson said.

During the briefing, the politician also mentioned that it took the Senate four months to pass a bill providing supplementary funding, while the House of Representatives only received the document a week and a half ago.

Earlier this week, after meeting with US President Joe Biden, Johnson stated that the issue of Ukraine assistance would be resolved “in the time and manner”.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced at a news conference last week that Ukraine had notified the United States, specifically Congress, of the need to approve a multibillion-dollar aid package within a month.
