Details: Reuters reports that the 274-metre-long tanker Eventin had been drifting slowly since Friday morning and was unable to manoeuvre. The incident occurred near the island of Rügen.

“The stranded vessel is currently secured with a towing link to prevent it from drifting uncontrollably,” Germany’s Central Command for Maritime Emergencies said in a statement. “The next tactical steps for the operation are currently being assessed”.

The tanker was travelling from Russia to Egypt. The command said the evacuation of 24 crew members was not necessary. They also added that additional tugs are on their way to the tanker.

Bild reported that the vessel loaded oil at the Russian port of Ust-Luga, near the Estonian border, and departed on 6 January. Its final destination is the Egyptian port of Port Said. The tanker is connected to Russia’s shadow fleet.
