Ukraine could potentially hold territory in Russia’s Kursk Oblast for at least several months, if not longer, according to estimates from US officials.

Details: The sources mentioned that Ukraine has not faced significant supply issues in Kursk Oblast yet, as Russian forces have only conducted limited counterattacks and focused more on advancing in Ukraine’s east.

In addition, after months of waiting, Ukrainian forces have received a steady ammunition supply. This was made possible by the efforts of allies, including a Czech initiative and support from the US and France aimed at boosting Ukraine’s long-term artillery capabilities.

Bloomberg noted that Ukraine’s summer operation in Kursk Oblast initially surprised Kyiv’s allies with its rapid success. However, some officials expressed concern that the operation might come at a high cost if Russia counterattacked and pushed Ukrainian troops out.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine might use the territory in Kursk Oblast as a bargaining chip in future talks, although it is unclear when it could occur, as Russian leader Vladimir Putin has shown little willingness for serious negotiations.

Quote from Bloomberg: “Ukraine’s allies are detecting that Zelenskyy may be getting ready to adopt a more flexible approach as they look at ways to help bring an end to Russia’s war.”

Details: Bloomberg added that Ukraine is not only working on how best to defend itself this winter but is also planning for the upcoming year, including the addition of more brigades, increased recruitment and improved equipment and training.
