Ukraine’s foreign minister talks about country’s expectations from Poland’s EU presidency

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has spoken about Ukraine’s expectations from Poland’s presidency of the European Union, which began on 1 January 2025.

Details: He said that in the first half of 2025, Ukraine counts on Polish leadership, principled position and determination.

Sybiha expressed hope for strengthening cooperation with his Polish counterpart Radosław Sikorski “to advance the EU-Ukraine agenda”.

Quote: “We anticipate new initiatives to strengthen military support for Ukraine and sanctions pressure on the aggressor. We aim for a dynamic process of Ukraine’s EU accession, including the opening of Cluster 1 and other clusters based on the results of the screening process.”

Background:

  • Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that during his country’s presidency of the EU Council, there could be significant events regarding war and peace in Ukraine.
  • Among the priorities of the Polish presidency, he highlighted security, energy and competitiveness.
