Details: The legislation stipulates that women deemed fit for service based on health and age criteria can submit an application to undergo basic military training voluntarily. Before starting the training, they will be registered as conscripts.

After completing the training, these women will be placed on the register of military reservists.

Before beginning practical exercises in the training programme, all volunteers will undergo a medical examination.

Background:

  • Under new regulations, Ukraine has replaced conscription with basic military training for citizens. All men aged 18–24, who are not yet subject to mobilisation, are required to complete the training. Women can participate on a voluntary basis.
  • Basic military training will be available in higher education institutions and military academies, with plans to include it as a mandatory course in the curriculum.
  • Male students who fail to complete the training will face expulsion from their educational institutions.
