Details: Kuleba noted that he and his Polish counterpart Radosław Sikorski had talked about how Poland could help protect Ukrainian airspace from Russian missiles as well as protecting its own airspace from them.

Dmytro Kuleba also reiterated his call for Ukraine’s partners to provide as many Patriot air defence systems as possible. Patriots are capable of intercepting ballistic missiles.

Background:

  • At 04:23 on the morning of 24 March, a Russian missile violated Polish airspace during a Russian missile attack on Ukraine. The missile reportedly entered Polish airspace near the village of Osierdów in the Lublin Voivodeship. It was there for 39 seconds.
  • Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Minister of National Defence of Poland, stated that Poland would have downed the Russian missile if there had been any signs that it was heading for a target in Polish territory.
  • Shortly afterwards, the Polish Foreign Ministry said that NATO was considering the option of shooting down Russian missiles as they approached the territory of the North Atlantic Alliance.
