Ukrainian consul in Lublin sees no blockage of bus traffic at Polish border

The Ukrainian consul in Lublin arrived at the Dorohusk-Yahodyn checkpoint and did not see passenger traffic being blocked. He met with the Polish hauliers protesting near the checkpoint and emphasised the unacceptability of delaying the passage of passenger buses.

The Consulate General noted that the police denied the facts of the deliberate blocking of passenger buses by protesters.
“The slowdown in traffic may be caused by technical reasons related to the passage of other vehicles through the protesters’ corridor. In such cases, buses can wait up to half an hour. At the time of the consul’s stay at the protest site, a regular passenger bus passed in the direction of Ukraine unhindered,” the Consulate General said.
Serhii Tsaruk, in a conversation with police representatives and protesters, stressed the inadmissibility of any delays in the movement of passenger buses.
Additionally, the Consulate General of Ukraine in Lublin sent an official letter to the commandant of the police of the Lublin Voivodeship with a request to ensure the unhindered movement of buses in the places of protests in the future.
Background:
- On the evening of 11 March, Oleksandr Kubrakov, Deputy Prime Minister, said that he had received information about cases of Polish protesters and police stopping passenger buses heading to and from Poland. At the same time, he did not provide any details of where and when this happened and did not specify the number of such cases.
- From the comment of the ambassador of Ukraine to Poland, it became known that this was happening at the Yahodyn-Dorohusk checkpoint. The Ukrainian consul went there.
- The spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service said in a comment to Ukrainska Pravda that Ukrainian border guards have not seen any issues with the passage of passenger transport directly across the border with Poland, but they do not rule out that there may be certain problems with their movement at some distance from the border where the Polish protesters are located.
