Ukrainian Culture Ministry to build storage facilities for evacuated art

Pravda Ukraine

The Ukrainian Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications, in collaboration with the government, is working on creating depositories to preserve cultural artifacts.

Source: Mykola Tochytskyi, Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications, shared this on the Karpiak on Suspilne project, as reported by Suspilne Kultura (Culture)

Details: The plan involves constructing dual-purpose storage facilities that will house artworks and museum exhibits while also accommodating people. Two such facilities have already been approved and construction is expected to begin soon.

The actual locations of these depositories are not disclosed for security reasons.

This subject will also be considered during the “Cultural Ramstein” meeting with ministers from other countries. Ukraine desperately needs such facilities, and conversations with international partners are ongoing about exhibiting evacuated artefacts.

Background: The idea of shelters for cultural assets was first announced by Rostyslav Karandieiev, Tochytskyi’s predecessor and Acting Minister, in the summer of 2024. Karandieiev stated that the Ministry had been negotiating funding for the construction with Japan, Poland and Sweden.
