Details: These strikes aim to disrupt Russian exports and fuel supplies for the Russian army on the front lines.

The targets of the attacks were the Rosneft oil refinery in Ryazan, the Novoshakhtinsk refinery, and a Lukoil facility in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.

The publication notes that Ukraine has been using drones to target key Russian oil facilities from the Black Sea to the Baltic Sea since the beginning of this year.

The attacks in February affected almost a fifth of Russia’s crude oil processing capacity, but the industry recovered at the beginning of March.

Background:

  • The Security Service of Ukraine attacked three oil refineries in Russia with drones on the night of 12-13 March, namely those in Ryazan and Kstovo in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast and Kirishi in Leningrad Oblast.
  • The Russian Defence Ministry claimed that dozens of Ukrainian drones attacked Russia on the night of 12-13 March, with 65 UAVs supposedly destroyed. However, Russian Telegram channels reported numerous drone strikes.
