Ukrainian female foilists become European champions among youth

The female fencing squad of Ukraine’s youth national team (foil) has won gold at the European Cup U-23 in Antalya (Türkiye).
Four Ukrainian fencers – Emily Konrad, Anna Maksymchenko, Polina Kuleshova and Alina Dmytruk – defeated the current champions from France with the score 45:43.
The first half of the match passed in an equal fight: both teams did not miss more than two-three shots. The critical moment seemingly came when French foilists flipped the score from 30:27 to 33:35.
However, Maksymenko quickly bridged the gap and led Ukraine forward (40:37). Konrad managed to bring the match to the victorious end.
This is Ukraine’s first gold medal in the history of European U-23 championships.
Earlier, a male fencing team won bronze in this tournament.
A female Ukrainian rapier team won silver, losing the final fixture to Italy with the score 37:45.
