Ukrainian Navy show how Hetman Ivan Mazepa corvette for Ukraine is being tested at sea – video

The Ukrainian Navy has shown how the Hetman Ivan Mazepa corvette-class multi-purpose ship of the Ukrainian Navy, which is being built in Türkiye, is undergoing sea trials.

Details: Militarnyi writes that during these tests, the ship’s crew and shipbuilding company, together with contractors, check the operation of all the corvette’s systems. In particular, the way the equipment operates in different modes and loads. 

The corvette is due to join the Ukrainian Navy in 2024.

Background:

  • On 2 October 2022, the first Ukrainian ADA-class corvette Hetman Ivan Mazepa was launched in Türkiye at the RMK Marine shipyard.
  • The first corvette for the Ukrainian Navy was laid down in Türkiye in September 2021. At the end of December, a shipyard in Istanbul began assembling the corvette’s hull.
  • On 8 March 2024, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy decreed that an Ada-class corvette of the Armed Forces of Ukraine that is being built in Türkiye is to be named after the 17th-century Hetman Ivan Vyhovskyi.
