Alla Pushkarchuk (Ruta), military servicewoman and journalist for Tyzhden (the Ukrainian Week), a weekly magazine and news outlet that covers various topics, and Chytomo, a media about the culture of reading and the art of book publishing in Ukraine and the world, was killed in action on 25 April.

Details: Alla Pushkarchuk entered the military service back in 2014, leaving behind the world of arts, studies at the Kyiv National I. K. Karpenko-Karyi Theatre, Cinema and Television University and her dream career as a theatre critic.

Krapyvenko said that when Pushkarchuk joined the Tyzhden team, she grew from a journalist to a full-fledged cultural commentator.

Pushkarchuk also worked for Chytomo media. There, she was responsible for the news feed and coordinating the People with Empty Chairs project, dedicated to writers and journalists from Ukraine and around the world persecuted because of their political beliefs.

IMI stated that Alla Pushkarchuk is the 77th person on the list of media professionals killed as a result of Russian aggression against Ukraine.

Quote from Krapyvenko: “Alla was from that generation that grew up being at the front and eagerly made plans for the future.

She collected folk jewellery, was keenly interested in cultural life and posted photos of cats that were always with her wherever she went.

No one can replace Alla, neither in peacetime nor in wartime. This is an irreparable loss in every sense.

Her words about being annoyed by veterans who boast that ‘I was in the ATO, and who the hell are you?’ will become her legacy for me. She couldn’t stand arrogance and unnecessary pathos.” [The ATO or Anti-Terrorist Operation is a term used from 2014 to 2018 by the media, the government of Ukraine and the OSCE to identify combat actions in parts of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts against Russian military forces and pro-Russian separatists ].
