Details: Halushchenko advised Ukrainians to be ready for all possible outcomes in a forthcoming warm season since the war is ongoing.
“I was often asked this before the start of the heating season (What to prepare for? – ed.). I was then asked whether to buy generators or power banks. And yes, it’s a bit frightening when a minister says, ‘Let’s all buy generators’ but I would like to say again what I said then: yes, buy them and get ready, but we will do everything in our power so that you don’t need them. Now Russian large-scale attacks have resumed, and we need to get ready for any scenario,” he explained.
Background:
- Russia attacked two thermal power plants belonging to DTEK, the largest private energy company in Ukraine, severely damaging the equipment.
- As a result of the Russian large-scale attack on the early morning of 11 April, the Trypillia Thermal Power Plant was completely destroyed.
- The loss of the Trypillia Power Plant will negatively affect the power balance in Ukraine as it will have less power to cover the energy consumption needs during peak hours.
- The Trypillia Power Plant was a very large facility that could not be fully protected by fortifications alone. Use of appropriate air defence systems was essential.
