UN General Assembly adopted a resolution calling for a “humanitarian truce” in Gaza

Details: 120 countries out of 193 members voted for the resolution during the emergency special session; 14 members voted against, 45 abstained.
At the same time, Canada rejected the amendment condemning the terrorist attacks of Hamas on 7 October and demanding the immediate release of the hostages captured by this group.
Resolutions of the UN General Assembly are advisory in nature.
In order for a resolution on peace a security to be adopted, at least two-thirds of the members of the General Assembly have has to vote in favour.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called on UN countries to condemn the Hamas attack against Israel and prevent the spread of this conflict.
