US Ambassador to Hungary David Pressman stated that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán cannot consider himself a “peacemaker” unless he demands that Russian leader Vladimir Putin ends the war on terms that respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Quote: “Hungary’s leader chooses to stand with a man whose forces are responsible for crimes against humanity in Ukraine, and alone among our Allies. While Russia strikes Ukrainian civilians, Hungary pleads for business deals.”
Details: In his message, Pressman refers to Orbán’s recent meeting with Putin, as well as nine visits to the Russian Federation by Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó.
“This is not about ‘peace’ it’s about profit, and it’s a huge disservice to Hungarians and Hungary’s relationship with its Allies. Until Orbán insists Putin end his brutal war on terms that respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, he is no peacemaker,” the ambassador concluded.
Russian ruler Vladimir Putin hosted Viktor Orbán, Hungarian PM, in the Kremlin on 5 July to conduct negotiations and discuss Ukraine, among other things. He started the meeting by mentioning an ultimatum for Kyiv.
Viktor Orbán said that after his visits to Moscow and Kyiv, he realised that the positions of both sides regarding the war of aggression unleashed by Russia “are very far apart”.
