The project to extend funding for the work of the US government until March may be adopted by the US Congress next week.

Details: Congress is preparing this funding plan amid the threat of a shutdown.
House and Senate leaders support the temporary funding plan, despite Speaker Mike Johnson previously rejecting the idea of another short-term funding extension.
Under the new plan, funding for some federal agencies will last until 1 March, while funding for others will last until 8 March, the sources said.
Background:
- On 14 November, the US House of Representatives approved a two-stage temporary government funding bill with no funds to help Ukraine and Israel.
- The draft bill provides for the continuation of funding for priority areas until 19 January. The rest of the government would be funded until 2 February.
- US President Joe Biden is trying to convince the US Congress to support aid to both Ukraine and Israel and to approve a new US$106 billion aid package, which includes more than US$61 billion in funding for aid to Ukraine.
- But Mike Johnson, the new speaker of the US House of Representatives, insists that the aid packages for Ukraine and Israel be considered by Congress separately, and the “Ukrainian” package be considered together with appropriations for border security with Mexico.
