Details: The congressman noted that the United States and Ukraine share a common value – civilian control over the Armed Forces.

“This is a time-honoured value that is crucial for any democracy. And as part of that, civilian leaders have the right and the responsibility to elect those leaders who will move forward,” the congressman said.

“We understand that after two years of fierce struggle, President Zelenskyy is looking for change and a different approach, and that is certainly within his right, and we support that right,” the US representative added.

On behalf of the American people, he expressed his gratitude to General Zaluzhnyi, who has led the effort to defend Ukraine over the past two years, supported his soldiers and “done it spectacularly”.

“He should be given credit for his leadership. There is no doubt about that,” Crow said.

The Pentagon, commenting on the changes in Ukraine’s military leadership, reiterated the United States’ readiness to cooperate with the new commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The European Commission has stated that the European Union’s support for Ukraine will remain unchanged after the resignation of Valerii Zaluzhnyi, former commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
