Details: As explained in the US Treasury, sanctions against the leadership of Kaspersky Lab contribute to ensuring “the integrity of our cyber domain and to protect our citizens against malicious cyber threats”.

The sanction decree includes members of the company’s board of directors Andrei Tikhonov, Danil Borshchev, Andrei Efremov, and Igor Chekunov, vice president Andrei Dukhvalov, and executive vice presidents Mikhail Gerber and Kirill Astrakhan.

It also includes the names of Kaspersky Lab’s department leaders: Andrei Suvorov, Denis Zenkin, Marina Alekseeva, Anton Ivanov; and Anna Kulashova, managing director for Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States.

At the same time, the US Treasury Department did not include Kaspersky Lab, its parent company, subsidiaries, or CEO on the sanctions list.

This ruling followed a Department of Commerce order that prohibited persons and businesses in the United States from using Kaspersky Lab products for cybersecurity purposes.

The Russian corporation was blacklisted because it collaborated with the Russian military and intelligence organisations to help the Russian government’s cyber-intelligence objectives.

In 2017, the United States outlawed the use of Kaspersky Lab products in state-run organisations. Following that, Western intelligence services discovered proof that Russia was stealing data using Kaspersky Anti-Virus.
