Details: “We are deeply grateful for support in constructing passive protection systems, as well as the US$800M financing package for the energy sector. During this visit, we provided a list of critical equipment necessary for immediate repairs, created by Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers [the government],” Svyrydenko noted.

During her visit to the US, Svyrydenko met with David Turk, the US Deputy Secretary of Energy, and they primarily discussed energy recovery.

The press service for Ukraine’s Economy Ministry told Ekonomichna Pravda that the US$800 million from the US is part of the funds announced at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Berlin, which are currently being allocated.

Background:

  • While Ukraine is dealing with the aftermath of the latest Russian attack, making predictions about recovery remains challenging. However, the country has the necessary resources to repair its energy sector.
  • On Monday, 26 August, Russia attacked Ukrainian substations with cluster missiles for the first time. However, thanks to protection, only a few substations were damaged.
