The White House is not planning to change its “general approach” towards allowing Ukraine to strike Russian territory with US weapons in the near future, but will continue to discuss this with the Ukrainian side.

Details: Kirby noted that he would not make any announcements until decisions are made in the context of Ukraine’s strikes on Russia, but reminded that the US is changing and developing its support for Kyiv in line with the situation on the battlefield.
Kirby said he wouldn’t expect this general approach to change in the coming weeks and months, but added that “we’ll see how things go”.
The White House official said that the United States will continue to stay in close contact with the Ukrainian side to effectively meet the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the battlefield.
Background:
- Last week, Ukraine confirmed that the United States had authorised the limited use of its weapons to strike Russian territory.
- The White House clarified that the permission to strike with American weapons applied to the border not only in Kharkiv but also in Sumy Oblast. At the same time, the authorisation does not apply to long-range ATACMS missiles.
- Meanwhile, Kyiv wants to reach an agreement to expand the scope of this authorisation.
