Quote: “Israel is in the midst of a war that was launched by the Hamas terror group. It already regrets it.
We’ve prepared for this. The IDF and the Southern Command have prepared quality offensive plans to achieve the goals of the war.
The IDF is ready for the [ground] manoeuvre, and we will make a decision with the political echelon regarding the shape and timing of the next stage,” Halevi said.
Details: He added that there were “tactical and even strategic considerations” that delayed the ground offensive, but they allowed the IDF to carry out more significant preparations.
“We are making use of every minute to be even more prepared… Killing terrorists, destroying infrastructure, collecting more intelligence for the next stage,” he added.
Background:
- On 22 October, Halevi informed the IDF Command that the military would launch an operation to take out Hamas.
- On 20 October, Western media reported that the US and European governments were asking Israel to postpone the start of a ground operation in the Gaza Strip and allow time for secret negotiations mediated by Qatar to free the hostages held by Hamas.
