Details: The embassy thanked Senedd for recognising the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine as genocide against Ukrainians.

Quote: “It’s a significant milestone in restoring historical justice and raising awareness about the millions of innocent victims!” the embassy added.

A resolution passed by the Welsh Parliament indicates that it considers the Holodomor “a predetermined crime committed and led by Stalin and the Soviet Government against the people of Ukraine” and recognises it as an act of genocide.

The resolution also notes “the crucial role of Welsh journalist Gareth Jones in bringing the cruelty of the Holodomor to the attention of the world” and confirms Wales’ support of the people of Ukraine in their struggle against the aggression of the Russian Federation.

Today, the parliaments of about three dozen countries around the world, as well as the European Parliament and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, have recognised the Holodomor as a genocide of Ukrainian people.
