Details: Kirby said that due to the new restrictive measures, the Russian leadership will be forced to make difficult choices and lose billions of dollars every month.
“[The new sanctions] are putting significant pressure on the Russian economy, and it will increasingly force the Russian leadership to make difficult choices,” Kirby said.
Kirby reiterated that sanctions against Russian banks with international ties, including Gazprombank, imposed in November last year, had hit the Russian energy sector hard.
“We believe this should increase the pressure [on Russia] and contribute to the already bleak economic outlook for 2025 and beyond for Putin and his wartime economy,” he added.
